Symmetry and Pattern
It was rainy season. Dark clouds travelled here to there in the sky. Students of
class third went for a picnic in the nearby fields.
They played for long and then sat down to sing a song.
Just then they saw a peacock dancing with its feathers spread wide.
The children were looking and looking at the beauty of the dancing peacock.
“Notice the equal size of the curved feathers on the peacock both side, the
teacher said.
“Beauty lies in the symmetry of body parts of the birds, insects, animals,
flowers and leaves.”
The teacher showed the symmetry of flower and leaves also.
SYMMETRY
Such figure which can be divided into two equal halves are said to be
symmetrical about the dotted line. The figure is said to have symmetry.
The dotted line dividing the figure into equal halves is called the line of
symmetry.
If we fold the figure along the dotted line and put a mix or along the dotted line
of symmetry, then the image of one side of the figure will show exactly the
other half of the figure.
