Fractional Number

Tom bought a pizza. He shared it with his three friends. They were 1 + 3 = 4 in
number.

Tom put the plate on a table, took a knife and cut the pizza into four equal parts.

They took 1 equal part each.

When we divide 1 thing into 4 equal parts, we say

FRACTION

A part of a whole object or collection of objects is called a fraction (of the whole

or collection).

When an object is divided into two equal parts then each part is called one half

Numerators and Denominators

The number of equal parts a whole is divided into is called denominator. The
number of equal parts taken is called numerator.
