UNIT OF CAPACITY VOLUME
The quantity of liquid that a container can hold is called capacity or volume.
Standard unit of capacity is litre. To measure the capacity of smaller
containers, we use a smaller unit called millilitre.
1 litre = 1000 millilitre 1 l = 1000 ml In short
The unit litre is used for measuring large quantity of liquids such as quantity of
milk in a drum, water in a storage tank, petrol in a car etc.
The unit millilitre is used for measureing small quantity of liquids such as the
quantity of medicine, shampoo, cold drinks etc.
CONVERSION OF UNITS OF CAPACITY
To convert litre to millilitre multiply by 1000:
2 l = 0002 × 100 ml = 2000 ml
2 l 5 ml = 2000 ml + 00 5 ml = 2005 ml
2 l 10 ml = 2000 ml + 10 ml = 2010 ml0
2 l 225 ml = 2000 ml + 225 ml = 2225 ml
To convert litre to millilitre divide by 1000:
4000 ml = 4000 ÷ 1000 = 4 l
