Time

Kelly went to a fun fair with her elder brother. Kelly wanted to ride an elephant.

But its back was full of children. The man at the ticket window said, It will

come in just 10 minutes. Please wait in the shadow.

Kelly asked her brother how much 10 minutes are. Her brother told that it
would be ten minutes while they sip coconut water.

As they finished their coconut water, they saw the elephant coming back.

They happily enjoyed the ride.

TIME SHOWN BY MINUTE HAND

When the minute hand moves from 12 to 1, it covers 5 small division. Similarly
upon reaching 2, it has covered 10 small division; upon reaching 3, it has

covered 15 small division and so on.

MINUTE HAND

at 1 shows 0 1 × 5 = 5 minutes at 9 shows 0 9 × 5 = 45 minutes
0
at 2 shows 0 2 × 5 = 10 minutes at 10 shows 10 × 5 = 50 minutes

at 3 shows 0 3 × 5 = 15 minutes at 11 shows 11 × 5 = 55 minutes

at 6 shows 0 6 × 5 = 30 minutes at 12 shows 12 × 5 = 60 minutes

60 minutes indicate the next hour.

We say these minutes as 5 minutes past the hour, 10 minutes past the hour, 15
minutes past the hour and so on:

(i) When the minute hand moves one-fourth (quarter) of the dial (3 digits =

15 minutes, we say the time in quarter past the hour).
