(ii) When the minute hand moves one-half on the dial (6 digits = 30 minutes),
we say the time half past the hour.

(iii) When the minute hand is closer to the next hour, we subtract the minutes

from 60 and talk about the number of minutes to the next hour (60 – 35) =

25.

At 5 : 45, 45 minutes have past since 5 o’clock and 15 minutes remain
before 6 o’clock.

5 : 45 is called 15 minutes to 6 or quarter to 6 (the next hours)

50 minutes past is called 10 minutes to the next hour.

55 minutes past is called 5 minutes to the next hour.
