Objective: To understand the concept of regrouping in addition.

Things We Need: Square lined paper, scissors and rubber band

Procedure:

1. Cut the square lined paper into squares of hundred (10 × 10), strips of tens
(10 × 10) and pieces of one (1 × 1). Bind 10 squares of hundred together

with a rubber band to have one thousand (100 × 10)

2. Let us add 1343 and 1724.

3. 1343 = 1000 + 300 + 40 + 3

Put together 1 thousand (ten squares of hundred), 3 squares of hundred, 4
strips of ten and 3 pieces of one.
