Taking something away from a group or number of things, called subtraction.

For example–

SUBTRACTION OF FOUR DIGIT NUMBERS (WITHOUT BORROWING)

Example: Subtract 5463 from 8695.

Solution: 5 ones – 3 ones = 2 ones Th H T O

9 tens – 6 tens = 3 tens
– 5 4 6 3
6 hundreds – 4 hundreds = 2 hundreds

8 thousands – 5 thousands = 3 thousands
